SKI4001 Skills for Learning in Care Assignment Task Date for Submission End of Module (summative) assessment: 22nd January 2018 (14:00 GMT) Assignment Brief As part of the formal assessment for the programme you are required to submit a Skills for Learning in Care portfolio. Identify the skills required within the workplace, and illustrate their use and application, particularly within a management and/or practitioner context 2. Identify personal qualities and transferable skills necessary for employability and further study and use methods of enquiry to explore personal development opportunities and related issues. 3. Identify, retrieve and evaluate discipline specific material for a given purpose and use such material appropriately. 4. Demonstrate the ability to communicate discipline specific information in an appropriate form as specified. 5. Manage employability, utilising the skills of personal development and planning in different contexts to contribute to society and the workplace. Maximum word count: 2000 words Assignment Task (Part 2) Instructions to students You are required to compile a portfolio of material that highlights your learning and development. Note that you should introduce the portfolio with an overview of your approach and conclude with a summary of the parts. Your portfolio should be a maximum 3000 words excluding the cover page, table of contents, introduction, conclusion, reference list and necessary appendices. It may be submitted as either a MS Word or Adobe Acrobat document. The portfolio should be word processed as a SINGLE document for all parts of this assignment, and include a table of contents with page numbers on each page as a footer. Your Student Identity Number should appear as a header. Review your activity notes, blogs, reflective and study notes as a basis for your work. Refer to the online course material and answers to online activities to refresh your memory. Part Two: Assignment (Learning outcomes 3 and 4) There are two tasks for part two of this assignment. a) Research the topic “The importance of reflection in health and social care.†Your research should draw on at least two recent academic journal articles, two recent academic texts and one appropriate web site that must be included in your reference list. Write a short summary describing each source and explain why you selected it. You should evaluate each source for currency, scope, credibility and intended audience. To be clear: this task is about identifying sources, reading, selecting and motivating your choice of sources before using the sources to write the essay in task two. You are strongly advised to show your tutor a draft of this task, before you progress to the second task. (500 words) b) Using the sources that you have identified above, write a 1500-word essay discussing the following topic Examine the role and importance of critical reflection in health and social care to establish and share good practice. (1500 words) Student Guidelines Assessment tasks: For each module there are two assessment parts: 1) In-class element – this will be assessed in the classroom by your tutor. Your tutor will support your development towards the completion of this task and advise you in-class and online, when this will take place. All in-class tasks will need to be completed by week 6 at the latest. 2) Summative assessment – this is to be submitted via ilearn. The work shows a high level of competence in managing sources and materials, initiative and very good academic writing skills and professional skills (where appropriate). The work shows originality of thought. Upper second (2:1) 60-69% Very good performance which demonstrates the ability to analyse the subject and apply some theory. The work shows a good level of competence in managing sources and materials and some initiative. Academic writing skills are good and expression remains accurate overall. Good professional skills (where appropriate). The work shows some original thought. There are some difficulties in developing professional skills (where appropriate). The work lacks original thought and is largely imitative. Marginal fail 30-39% Limited performance in which there are omissions in understanding the subject, its underpinning theory and ethical considerations. The work shows a limited use of sources and materials. Academic writing skills are weak and there are errors in expression and the work may lack structure overall. There are difficulties in developing professional skills (where appropriate). The work lacks original thought and is largely imitative. Clear fail 29% and below A poor performance in which there are substantial gaps in knowledge and understanding, underpinning theory and ethical considerations. The work shows little evidence in the use of appropriate sources and materials. Academic writing skills are very weak and there are numerous errors in expression. The work lacks structure overall.
