• Suicide is a leading cause of death among youths; however, many more youths are at risk for suicide as a result of
experiencing suicidal ideation, making suicide plans, and attempting suicide, making a focus on nonfatal suicidal behavior a
crucial public health priority.

• Inter-professional Teams
• When facing youth who have suicidal problems, the interprofessional team must perform competent health
assessments of suicide risk and develop strategies to prevent suicide. The health care teams must work together to
assess and maintain environmental safety, develop protocols, policies, and practices consistent with suicide
awareness and prevention.
