The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco landmark – not too dissimilar to the Empire State Building – and was the tallest building in the world until the construction of the Empire State Building in 1931. It is a landmark because of the stylistic interpretation of the designers and can be seen far and wide from the shores of the surrounding boroughs. It represents the Art Deco design par excellence and is viewed as an important landmark on the Manhattan horizon. Finally, the World Trade Center is an iconic structure which was destroyed following the infamous attacks of September 11, 2001. The World Trade Center today is a construction site and a work in progress for the development of a new series of towers to replace those which were destroyed by Islamic terrorists more than eight years ago. Although the World Trade Center no longer stands, its former location is a landmark to the thousands of visitors each and every day who come to pay their respects to one of the most recognizable locations in New York. Work is presently underway to return the World Trade Center location to its former importance on the Manhattan skyline.
