Equality is defined as providing the same resources or opportunities to everyone. Equity is defined as providing resources or opportunities needed to meet certain circumstances to achieve equality. (Equity vs. Equality: What’s the Difference? 2020) Berthold (2016, p. 84) makes not that when it comes to health inequalities and health inequities that they are used interchangeably in public health. There is a shortage of healthcare providers and access to healthcare in rural areas of Alabama. This includes rural areas having limitations to transportation. (Auburn University, 2020) There is access to low cost or affordable healthcare made available in these areas. However, with limitation on transportation in rural areas the community is not able to take advantage of the opportunity. The equality was providing low-cost or affordable healthcare. Yet, the inequity is not having the transportation to access the care. I suggest chartered shuttles to help address the issue. The shuttles are state funded and no cost to those in rural areas.
