To properly understand the concept of Fear of crime and how it operates in an individual’s mindset, it is essential for one to determine the differences between actual and perceived levels of crime (Brunton-Smith & Sturgis, 2011). Actual levels of crime refer to reality with regard to the crime rate that is present in a region and is determined by comprehensive studies that have been undertaken by the relevant authorities such as the law enforcement agencies and other related branches. Using this information, they are able to determine various factors such as whether the crime rate has been on the increase or vice versa by comparing the results of their studies to previous ones.
