For each, describe your speech and action, show how it fits the definition of conflict, classify your conflict approach (‘style’), and describe the consequences of your communication.

CONSEQUENCES

EXAMPLE My friend accused me of being too negative about the possibility of finding rewarding, well-paying work.

I became defensive and angrily denied his claim. In turn I accused him of being too critical.

This was clearly an expressed struggle and I perceived interference in my choice of jobs. Possibly we both perceived scarcity of the reward of feeling good about ourselves.

Competing

After arguing for some time, we left each other, both feeling upset. I’m sure we’ll both feel uncomfortable around each other for a while.
