MAT312 Excel Lab #2 – Measuring Quality with Control ChartsNOTE: You need to use the Excel functions/tools for any calculations rather than just
typing numbers into the cells. Please review Excel tutorial video “Constructing a Control
Chart using Line Graph Tool” located in Resources, along with the examples in Chapter 7,
section 5, and your ALEKS assignment before attempting the lab.
Paint manufacturing is a $53 billion industry in the US. For this assignment, you have
been asked to conduct quality control for a manufacturing company. One of their
products is paint, sold in 4-liter cans. While the cans are filled on an assembly line with
an automatic valve, there were some reports of significant variation in the amounts.
While some variation is expected, you have been tasked to see if this is just by chance,
or if the machine is operating outside of normal quality control limits.
Part 1
The Excel Lab #2 Data File Download Excel Lab #2 Data Filehas the results of the five
random samples taken each day over the course of 25 days. First, you will need to use
Excel functions to complete the four columns necessary to generate an x-bar chart. Then
use Excel to generate the x-bar chart itself.
Part 2
You will need to write up a brief report to submit to the executive board. This should
include a copy of your x-bar chart, a discuss of the three control chart rules (refer to
ALEKS) and the conclusions that you were able to make from your analysis.
You can find a sample report on page 268 in the textbook to see how a statistical report
can look.
Submit both your Excel file, and your report (as a word doc) through the assignment link
here in Canvas.
