SRM II Fall 2022 Paper AssignmentYour paper is a written manuscript (using APA style) of an experiment conducted and analyzed with the class. You will build the
elements of your paper through multiple submissions in electronic (i.e., Google Docs) format. At the end of the process, your paper
must have the following elements: Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Method, Results (minimum of 3 analyses), Discussion, and
References (minimum of 4). You must also include a Table or Figure for each data analysis you present in the results, and you must
have a minimum of two Figures in the paper. The elements associated with each of the submissions are detailed further below.
The experiment is a replication of a classic study by Stroop (1935). The purpose of the experiment will be to
determine whether the time to determine the color of a word is slower when the letters spell a different color,
compared to when the color and word are the same. Another purpose of the study is to determine whether asking
participants to imagine that the letters on the screen are meaningless symbols can reduce the Stroop Effect
(partial replication of Raz et al., 2006). The Stroop test is administered online at http://ezyang.com/stroop.
You are required to conduct a minimum of three data analyses for the paper:
1.
2.
3.
A test to determine whether reaction time is faster when the color and word are the same compared to when they are
different (i.e., a test for the Stroop Effect).
A test to determine whether the Stroop Effect (increased reaction time when color and word are different) is smaller when
participants are asked to imagine that the letters are meaningless symbols.
One additional statistical test of your choice (must be relevant to study purpose, i.e., Stroop Effect).
This is a partial replication of two studies: Stroop (1935) and Raz et al. (2006). You must reference these articles in your paper.
There are two other related articles posted on D2L that you can reference if you think they is appropriate for how you want to structure
your paper, or you may find alternative articles on your own. You must have a minimum of 4 references in your paper: the Stroop
and Raz articles mentioned above, and at least two more (either the two posted on D2L or ones you seek out yourself).
Summary of Submission Dates & Requirements (note: all submissions will be Google Docs shared with me with

Extra credit. To be eligible for credit, extra credit options must be included in either Submission #2 (for analyses) or Submission #3
(for citations) and points will be included as part of your score. You may earn up to 2 points total by using either of the following 2
options, or a combination of both. The maximum extra credit you can earn on the paper is 2 points. Points can be earned by:
•
•
Conducting a literature search and including additional relevant articles. You will earn ½ point per reference, only if (1) the
reference(s) are over and above the required 4 and (2) you clearly show in your Introduction (or Discussion) that they are, in fact,
relevant to the study we are conducting. You must include enough information about the study so I can tell that you understood it,
and why it is relevant to our study (i.e., at least a few sentences describing it).
Conducting and reporting additional statistical analyses as long as these analyses are relevant to the overall purpose of the
study. You will earn 1 extra point for each additional result reported, provided that you (1) report the analysis correctly in APA style
in the Results, (2) discuss your result in the Discussion, and (3) include a Table or Figure relevant to the analysis results.
